Orion — AI-Powered Core Banking Platform
Orion is an enterprise core banking system built on Oracle infrastructure, paired with a companion mobile banking app and an in-app AI assistant. The platform exposes a set of purpose-built MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers that give LLMs secure, controlled endpoints to perform real internet banking actions — balance checks, transfers, bill payments, and account queries — on the customer's behalf.

Project Overview
Orion modernizes traditional core banking operations by combining a resilient Oracle-based backend with a mobile-first customer experience and a conversational AI layer.
Core Banking on Oracle: Account management, ledgers, and transaction processing run on Oracle Database and Fusion Middleware, providing the reliability and consistency required for regulated financial operations.
Mobile Banking App: A dedicated mobile application gives customers native access to their accounts, transfers, bill payments, and statements.
AI Assistant & MCP Layer: Orion introduces an in-app AI assistant backed by custom-built MCP servers. These servers expose tightly scoped, permissioned endpoints that let an LLM safely perform real banking operations — such as checking balances or initiating transfers — on behalf of an authenticated customer, instead of just answering questions about banking.
Security & Compliance: Every AI-initiated action passes through the same authentication, authorization, and audit pipeline as manual actions, ensuring AI-driven banking remains fully compliant and traceable.

Technologies Used
Challenges
Integrating a modern mobile and AI experience on top of a traditional Oracle-based core banking system
Designing MCP server endpoints that let an LLM perform real financial transactions without introducing security or compliance risk
Ensuring AI-initiated banking actions are authenticated, authorized, and fully auditable like any manual transaction
Maintaining strict transactional consistency across mobile, web, and AI-driven channels
Preventing prompt injection or unintended actions from reaching real banking endpoints through the LLM layer
Solutions
Oracle-Backed Core Engine: Built the ledger, account, and transaction-processing layer on Oracle Database and Fusion Middleware for enterprise-grade reliability and consistency.
Purpose-Built MCP Servers: Developed dedicated MCP servers that expose a narrow, permissioned set of banking tools (balance inquiry, transfer, bill pay) to the LLM, rather than open-ended database access.
Scoped AI Authorization: Required every AI-initiated action to run under the authenticated customer's own session and permission scope, with explicit confirmation steps before money movement.
Unified Audit Pipeline: Routed AI-initiated transactions through the same compliance, logging, and audit systems used for mobile and web banking, so every action is traceable end-to-end.
Event-Driven Updates: Used Kafka to propagate account and transaction events in real time across the mobile app, web channels, and AI assistant.
Native Mobile Experience: Delivered a dedicated mobile banking app for day-to-day account access, transfers, and statements alongside the AI assistant.
